A group under the aegis of Concerned Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the party’s national chairman, Ptof. Nentawe Yilwatda and Governor Caleb Mutfwang to address concerns over zoning arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group warned that failure to respect the zoning principle could affect the party’s electoral fortunes in the state.
In a statement issued yesterday, the convener, Paul Mengshak, emphasised the importance of maintaining existing arrangements in constituencies with diverse ethnic and religious compositions.
He noted that adherence to zoning had historically promoted balance and inclusiveness within the party structure.
Mengshak said that any deviation from established practices could lead to internal disagreements and weaken cohesion within the party.
“Zoning remains critical in Plateau, particularly in constituencies with multiple ethnic groups and religious interests,” he said.
The group advised the party leaders to ensure fairness in the distribution of elective positions across constituencies to sustain unity and voter confidence.
It also urged the stakeholders to adopt a consultative approach in resolving emerging issues ahead of the polls.
According to the group, maintaining internal harmony would be key to securing broad support for the party in the state.
Mengshak called on President Tinubu to engage party leaders in Plateau, stressing that unity and respect for established frameworks would strengthen the APC’s chances in 2027.
