Ahead of the 2027 general election, the Progressive Youth for Makinde’s Presidency 2027 has drummed up support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition.

Reacting to recent statements made by former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, regarding Makinde and the prospect of his candidacy in the 2027 presidential election, the youth said Makinde’s transformative leadership in Oyo State, demonstrated through his achievements in healthcare, education, security, housing, roads, agriculture, food security, human capacity building, leadership mentorship, economic stability, and fostering religious, ethnic, and political harmony, has earned him “Our trust and the trust of many Nigerians.’’

The National Secretary/Head Media Team PDP National Rebranding Forum and National Convener Progressive Youth’s For Makinde’s Presidency 2027, Prince Christopher Odianarewo, in a statement at the weekend, said, “We believe these accomplishments should be replicated at the national level.

His bold and intelligent approach to problem-solving makes him uniquely qualified to understand and address Nigeria’s challenges.

In a recent television interview, Fayose stated, “When I saw a flyer on social media about Seyi Makinde for president, I forwarded it to him.

“He called me and said he is not running, that it’s the handiwork of some overzealous boys. He said he won’t be used to running against a fellow Yoruba man. That’s the truth.”

While Fayose was entitled to his opinion, the youth said, “We feel compelled to set the record straight. The Progressive Youth for Makinde’s Presidency 2027 has never claimed any direct or indirect relationship with Governor Seyi Makinde.

“Furthermore, we have never discussed our mission or activities, directly or by proxy, with anyone affiliated with Governor Makinde concerning the 2027 Presidency.

“Our organisation, a significant part of the PDP National Rebranding Forum, convened in 2024 to assess our party’s performance and chart a path for the future of our party and our nation.

“We are deeply concerned by Nigeria’s worsening state of affairs under the APC-led federal government. Since 2015, the Naira has plummeted, insecurity in the North has escalated unchecked, housing costs have exploded, and the educational system is collapsing. The moral compass is skewed with youths chasing political positions rather than academics.
