Three boys drowned on Thursday morning in a pond behind the General Hospital in Monguno, Borno State.

Sources according to  Zagazola Makama , a counter-insurgency expert, identified the victims as Mallam Gana Mohammed, Modu Audu Saleh, and Abba Ngumami, all residents of the Water Board IDP Camp, Monguno.

The father of one of the victims, Muhammed Aisami, said they had gone swimming at about 7:40 a.m. when the incident occurred.

Emergency workers and the police were drafted to the scene, where sympathisers and officers recovered the bodies. Medical personnel at the General Hospital Monguno confirmed all three dead, noting no signs of violence.

The remains were handed over to their families for burial in line with Islamic rites.
