At least three people have been confirmed dead, while three others sustained varying degrees of life threatening injuries in an early morning accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ore-Benin Expressway.

The auto crash, which happened few metre before the Babcock Junction, along the express way, in the Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, involved an unmarked yellow coloured industrial crane and a white coloured Benz truck marked LG 59 BLF.

Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident, attributed the causes to overspeeding and driving against the traffic.

Akinbiyi explained that driver of the industrial crane drove in an opposite direction prohibited by the traffic regulations and consequently had a head collision with the Benz truck that was already on a top speed.

“According to the eye witness account the crane truck drove against traffic, coupled with excessive speed which led to head on collision with benz truck”.

The TRACE spokesman disclosed that three people died on the spot, while the tree others that sustained severe injuries were rescued to the medical facility of the Babcock University that was in the neighbourhood by the joint efforts of TRACE operatives and personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

He also explained that corpses of the “presumed dead” persons were deposited at the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu, while efforts were still ongoing for a quick evacuation of both vehicles from the expressway to allow for a free vehicular movement which hitherto was diverted to other lane of the expressway.
