A four-year-old girl (name withheld), who was kidnapped alongside her pregnant mother in a Kaduna village, has been left critically ill after seven months in captivity, during which she lost her mother and newborn sibling, as bandits launched another attack in the area, abducting six people.
According to information provided by Reuben Buhari, ex-spokesman to the late former Kaduna State Governor, Ibrahim Yakowa, the girl’s mother gave birth in the bush after about 90 days in captivity, but the newborn died due to the harsh conditions and lack of medical assistance.
“Her mother also died days later, leaving the little girl alone in the hands of her captors.
“The girl turned four while in captivity, enduring hunger, sickness, fear and loneliness.
“At some point, there were fears that she might have also died before she and a few other captives were finally released on November 2, 2026,” Buhari said.
Following her release, Buhari added that the little girl is now critically ill at an undisclosed hospital, where she is fighting for her life.
“Her father is seeking financial assistance to transfer her to a better-equipped hospital in Kaduna for further treatment,” he added.
In another development, bandits allegedly attacked Ungwan Toka community along Gurara Dam Road in Awon Ward, Kachia LGA, at the weekend, abducting six persons.
The latest attack came barely a day after suspected bandits invaded Akwando community in the same local government area, killing two persons and abducting 20 others, further heightening insecurity in Awon Ward and Kuturmi land.
A community source lamented that residents had repeatedly cried out to both the state and federal governments for intervention, but continued to live in fear of killings and abductions.
