Forty-nine graduating students of Osun State University bagged first-class degrees just as the university is set to award various degree certificates to 2,851 at the university’s 15th convocation at its main campus in Osogbo, Osun State.
The vice chancellor, Prof Odunayo Clement Adebooye, who disclosed this while revealing a series of events for the ceremonies to journalists in Osogbo, said the press conference was also designed to share the story of progress, resilience and transformation of how the institution has continued to evolve into one of the fastest-growing and most dynamic universities in the country.
He stated that the 2,851 degrees and diplomas to be awarded comprise 2,505 first degrees, one Postgraduate diploma, 283 master’s degrees and 62 doctoral degrees.
“The breakdown of the various degrees and diploma in terms of class of degrees is as follows: First- Class, 49; Second Class (Upper Division), 988; Second Class (Lower Division), 1,279; Third Class, 178; Pass, 01,” he said.
The vice chancellor disclosed that no fewer than seven projects would be commissioned during the convocation week-long event.
He said, “These include The Iconic Senate Building, funded with TETFund’s High Impact Intervention.
“The Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Building with furniture funded with TETFund’s Special Intervention. A Twin (500-500) Lecture Theatre Complex funded with TETFund’s Special Intervention.
“A 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre funded through TETFund’s Normal Intervention. Entrepreneurship Equipment funded with Annual Intervention. A 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre in Okuku Campus. A 500-Capacity Lecture Theatre in Ifetedo Campus.”
Adebooye who declared the institution’s permanent Teaching Hospital sponsored by Mrs Folorunso Alakija completed said it will be declared open at a date to be announced soon.
