Suspected thugs have invaded the venue of a political meeting at the residence of a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Salisu Abdul’aziz in Jeka Da Fari area of the state capital over the weekend.

Narrating his ordeal while addressing journalists yesterday, Abdul’aziz said they were holding a meeting with hundreds of women and youth at his residence when some political thugs stormed the house and dispersed the gathering and disrupted the meeting.

“We were holding a meeting on how to ensure victory for the PDP at my residence in Jeka Da Fari area of Gombe metropolis on Saturday, when we suddenly saw some Kalare thugs.

“They went on a rampage attacking women, youths and men attending the meeting. They vandalized my house, broke my gate and all electrical bulbs as well as my windows. We were lucky that the police were quick to intervene and calm the situation.

“I believe the attack was because I left the APC for the PDP. And I defected because I realised that APC didn’t mean well for the people.

“With all the suffering that APC has caused in Nigeria the situation is getting worse and the government has failed to come up with genuine policies and programmes to ameliorate the situation,” he alleged.

When contacted, the Gombe State Police Command public relations officer, ASP Mahid Mu’azu Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
