The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, delivered a powerful message on Friday, urging the Nigerian government and political leaders to prioritise the well-being of the people in 2024.

In a New Year message delivered in Lagos, Archbishop Adewale-Martins stressed the need for immediate action to alleviate the hardships experienced by millions of Nigerians due to the exorbitant cost of essential commodities, especially during the preceding election year of 2023.

The archbishop’s statement, relayed by Rev. Fr. Anthony Godono, the Church’s Director of Social Communications, highlighted the challenges faced by Nigerians amidst increased fuel prices, currency devaluation, and widespread insecurity.

Expressing concern about the draining effect these hardships have had on the populace, Archbishop Adewale-Martins called upon the government to focus its efforts on economic policies that would revitalise the economy and uplift the impoverished masses.
