Fifty youths have commenced training in the 3rd phase of Artisans in Collaborative Construction Employment Scheme (ACCES), in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.

Speaking while flagging-off the training yesterday, director general of the National Directorate of Employment, Mallam Nuhu Abubajar Fika said the scheme was aimed at reducing youth unemployment.

Represented by the state coordinator of the directorate, Mr Tessy Wachuku,  he explained that the scheme was designed to reduce unemployment amongst youths.

He said it will also provide an avenue for improving and upgrading their skills, organise them for regular sustainable work, and engender more trust by their potential clients.

“The directorate has since its inception in 1987, designed various schemes and programmes to tackle the problem of unemployment in the country. Among them is ACCES”, had added.

LEADERSHIP reports that some of the latest interventions by the directorate in the state was the flagged-off of four agricultural loans empowerment schemes.

The other is a nationwide job experience acquisition scheme under the Graduates Attachment Programme which 30 youths in the state benefited.

The state director of special public works, Mrs Roseline Olaoma, who was representated by the departmental head, Mr Micheal Ubani encouraged the beneficiaries to practice what they have learnt.
