A total of 500 persons have benefitted from the free eye screening and surgery of a medical outreach sponsored by the member representing Ilorin East Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hajia Fatimoh Arinola Lawal.
The beneficiaries of the exercise cut across the youths and the aged and it was conducted by a medical team led by Dr Tota Bolarinwa of Optometric Department of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) .
The Alabi Alasa- Idi- Ape venue of the exercise was besieged by the shortlisted 300 beneficiaries and non- accredited persons suffering eye problems.
The situation forced the sponsor, Hajia Lawal to increase the number of beneficiaries to 500.
At the event, Hajia Lawal said the plight of a young person suffering eye problem motivated her to organise the programme for her constituents.
She said the programme was aimed at giving hope to people with eye impairment that there are remedies and solutions to their problems.
The lawmaker said the beneficiaries after screening would be given free eye glasses, medication while those with critical conditions would undergo surgery at a later date at the UITH.
She added that the date of the surgery will be communicated to the affected persons through their telephone numbers which they have submitted.
In his remarks, the senior adviser and counselor to Kwara State governor, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, said the gesture of Hajia Lawal would be appreciated more, “if we put the cost of treatment of any ailment into consideration given the limited resources of most families.”
