A 52-year-old farmer, Ajibade Kehinde, has been found dead on his cocoa farm at Alani Camp, via Supare, in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Kehinde reportedly left home for the farm on Thursday, September 3, but failed to return, prompting his family and other concerned persons to raise the alarm.
His body was later discovered along a farm road in the area, leaving his family and residents in shock.
A source close to the incident said the farmer might have been attacked by suspected thieves allegedly operating in the area.
The source, however, said some farm produce were still found at the scene, raising questions about the motive of the suspected attackers and whether they succeeded in stealing anything.
Following the discovery, police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene and took the deceased to a General Hospital, where a doctor certified him dead.
His remains were later deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while detectives commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command was investigating the case to determine what happened and identify those responsible.
“The Command is investigating the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death and track down those behind it. We will deploy all necessary measures to ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice,” Jimoh said.
