68-yr-old Man Searching For Phone Rescued Inside Well In Oyo

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has rescued a 68-year-old man from a deep well at Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the state capital.

General Manager of the State Fire Services Agency, Akinyemi Akinyinka who confirmed the incident in Ibadan on Sunday, said a distress call was reported in the early morning through a telephone call, that someone fell inside a well at Mobolorunduro Mosque, No.30 Ajeigbe Street, Molefalafia, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Akinyinka said fire personnel led by ACFS Adedeji (Mrs) promptly deployed to the scene of the incident.

On getting there, the General Manager revealed that personnel discovered that a man of about 68 years of age got trapped inside a deep well of Mobolorunduro Mosque while solely trying to recover his lost phone in the well.

“The firemen swiftly swung into action by tying all necessary knots and observing precautionary measures. The man was rescued alive and handed over to his family for proper care.”

Akinyinka said the cause of the incident was due to ignorance, not knowing the danger associated with entering a well without properly trained.

He advised the public to desert any activity which could pose danger to their lives.

Also on Saturday, the agency averted explosion from a fallen trailer tanker loaded with 60,000 litres of automotive gas oil (AGO) along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Oremeji, Ibadan.

The agency’s Control Room said it received a distressed call at exactly 12:30hrs through telephone call of the fallen trailer tanker loaded with premium motor spirit.

Akinyinka said immediately the address was taken, the fire officers led by ACFS Adekola (Mrs) promptly deployed to the scene of the accident.

“On arrival, we met a fallen HOWO trailer tanker with registration number KMC692ZE (Kano) loaded with 60,000 litres capacity of automotive gas oil (AGO) which lost control whilst on motion, swerved off the road and somersaulted into a nearby road divider; content gushing out.

“We briskly carpeted the spillage with AFFF chemical foam compound to suppress the flammability of the liquid which can trigger fire from naked fire,” Akinyinka said.

He attributed the accident to reckless driving by the truck driver while commending the Agugu Division of the Nigerian Police and Amotekun Corps from lbadan North East local government area for security cover during the operation.

He added that while no casualty was recorded, the tanker was damaged as the fire service was able to save properties worth millions of naira.
