Bandits have attacked two communities in Kakau Ward, Chikun local government area of Kaduna State, abducting a pregnant woman, a seven-month-old baby and six others.
The IDP coordinator for Chikun council, Comrade Adams Sule, disclosed this to LEADERSHIP yesterday.
He said the attacks occurred on Monday in Kaso Rimi and Kaso Kurmi communities.
Sule said five people were abducted from farms in Kaso Kurmi at about noon.
He added that seven people were initially attacked at the farm, but two managed to escape while the attackers took five others away.
He said two women were later abducted from a house in Kaso Rimi at about 10pm.
Sule said other people who were around the house fled after becoming aware of the attackers’ presence, but the two women were unable to flee.
According to him, one of the women was a nursing mother, and her seven-month-old baby was also abducted.
A resident of Kaso Rimi, Ishaya Ganai, who also confirmed the incident, said the two women were abducted at about 10pm.
Ganai said one of the women was heavily pregnant and was believed to be due to give birth this month, while the other was a nursing mother whose seven-month-old baby was taken along with her.
He said the latest attack had heightened concerns among residents who had previously fled the community because of repeated attacks.
According to him, some residents returned this year to resume farming after the security situation appeared to have improved, as farming remained their main source of livelihood.
Ganai added that some buildings in the community had also collapsed after residents fled the area.
The residents appealed to the Kaduna State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to urgently strengthen security in the affected communities and secure the release of the abducted persons.
All efforts to obtain the Kaduna State Police Command’s reaction to the attacks were unsuccessful, as the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to several phone calls.
