75 Lady Golfers Battle For Prizes At KGC Ladies Pro/Am Golf Tournament

No fewer than 75 lady golfers from across Nigeria have converged at the Kaduna Golf Club (KGC) to participate at the Ladies Pro- Am tournament where prizes various are expected to be won.

The tournament which officially tee off on Friday evening but started on the 19th is expected to climax today with various prizes including cash to be given to winners.

Officially declaring the tournament opened during the tee off, Kaduna State deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe who was the guest of honour commended women golfers particularly those from outside the state for coming to participate in the tournament. 

Represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development in the state, Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong, Dr Balarabe said she was honored to be the guest of honor at such a remarkable female golf sport competition. 

“It is a pleasure to see so many talented women from all over the world come together to showcase their skills and passion for this beautiful sport.

“Golf is not just a game, but a lifestyle that requires discipline, determination, and dedication. It is a sport that challenges you physically and mentally, and it teaches you valuable life lessons that you can apply both on and off the course.

“As a female athlete myself, I understand the challenges that women face in sports. We often have to work harder, train longer, and fight for recognition and respect. But events like this one prove that women’s golf is thriving and that we are making great strides towards equality in sports.

“To all the players here today, I want to congratulate you on your hard work and commitment to this sport. You are an inspiration to young girls everywhere who dream of becoming golfers. You are proving that women can compete at the highest level and that we belong in the world of sports”.

While commending the organizers and sponsors of the event for their support and dedication to women’s golf, she said, their investment sport is helping to create opportunities for female athletes and paving the way for a brighter future.

Speaking earlier, the KGC Lady captain, Hajiya Hussaina Zubairu said, the event among others is to bring lady golfers across the country to showcase their talents while expressing excitement that about 17 ladies professional golfers are participating.

She said, ” Several lady golfers wanted to participate but unfortunately we’re unable to register before the registration was closed but even at that 75 lady golfers both professionals and amateurs are participating in the tournament” she disclosed.

Also speaking, President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LAGAN) represented by the Secretary Lema Lopuan urged the participating lady golfers to put up their best and akills in the tournament.
