The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State has received into its fold over 8,000 new members from across APC, ADC, LP, APP and APGA.

In a grand reception at the party’s state headquarters in Owerri, the national chairman of the PDP, Abdulrahman Mohammed received the new members on behalf of the party’s National Working Committee.

The PDP national chairman, Hon Mohammed, represented by the deputy chairman (North), YN Akinrinkwe (SAN), charged the new members to remain loyal to party rules, assuring them of the willingness to accord them all privileges and entitlements accruable to bonafide members.

Leading over 3,500 defectors from Owerri zone into the PDP, former deputy governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, Chief Summers Nwokie and Hon Uche Ogbuagu expressed delight on their reception by party leaders, and described PDP as the only platform for democrats ahead of the 2027 elections.

In Okigwe zone, High Chief Mike Duru Ejiogu, a renowned philanthropist and business mogul, Hon Sunny Chiadi, and Barr Ikenna Emeruem, who led over 3,000 persons into the PDP, maintained that their decision to re-join the party was to be part of a house they contributed to during its formative stage.

In Orlu zone, a former two-time member of the House of Representatives and PDP Board of Trustees member, Rt Hon Jones Onyereri, in collaboration with other stakeholders in the zone, wooed over 2,000 members into the party, expressing optimism that PDP will win future elections in Imo State and Nigeria in 2027.

“We feel good coming back home. When a woman marries two husbands, she will know the one she loves. Today, we have seen the character of other political parties and decided to tell ourselves that PDP is the best. Our conviction in life is to serve the public and impact positively on generations yet unborn,” they stated.

The PDP national chairman, Hon Mohammed, through his deputy (North), Barr Akinrinkwe, applauded the national secretary of PDP, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu for demonstrating exemplary leadership in the Southeast, saying that such outstanding quality led to the mass defection into the PDP.

He called on other leaders to emulate Senator Anyanwu and his courageous leadership, adding that his verifiable achievements and political breakthroughs remain a huge blessing to his people and Nigeria at large.

While charging the new entrants to work assiduously for the peace, unity and development of PDP, he also urged LGA party chairmen and the state executives to work in line with the party’s vision to carry everyone along in the discharge of their duties.
