9th NYG: Team Lagos Defeat Delta To Win Female’s Football Gold

Lagos State female’s team have emerged victorious in the football event at the ongoing 9th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba.

Lagos triumphed over Team Delta in the finals after a 1-1 draw in regulation time. The Lagos team came from behind to equalise before ultimately winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout.

Captain of the Lagos team, Rogert, expressed that the match’s outcome signifies more than just a victory.

“We have been coming to Delta to win a gold medal in the women’s football event at the National Youth Games. This is more than just a victory for me and my teammates,” she stated.

Delta team captain, Anastasia, was visibly emotional after the match, attributing her team’s loss in the penalty shootout to a technical error.

“My side lost due to some silly mistakes in our defence, but I return all the glory to God,” she said.

In other events, Team Delta celebrated success in the Judo 40kg girls’ category, with Precious Daniel securing gold, while Blessing Chukwuengozi of Team Abia claimed the silver medal. Annabel Iyalekhue of Edo State and Mayor Izibeklen of Bayelsa State shared the bronze medals.
