Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari has appointed a vice chancellor for Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU) and a rector for Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic.
They are Prof Shehu Salihu Muhammad for UMYU and Aminu Kallah Doro for the polytechnic. Their appointments were contained in a statement issued by the Department of Higher Education in Katsina.
The statement which was signed by the permanent secretary, Surajo Abubakar Dalhatu, said the confirmation of their appointments was in line with section 5(2) of the First Schedule of the University Law 2006 and section 25(1) of the Polytechnic (Amendment) Law 2003.
He said the appointments were sequel to the processes followed and completed by the Governing Councils of the respective institutions as provided in the laws that established the institutions. Both appointments are for a single tenure of five years.
Until his appointment, Muhammad was a professor of political science at the Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto while Doro was the deputy rector of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina.
“While praying for the appointees’ successful tenure, the governor urged the management, staff, students, the unions and the general public to cooperate with the new heads to move the two institutions forward,” Dalhatu said.
