The Arewa Youths for Peace and Security has appealed to acting Customs Controller General Wale Adeniyi to release an impounded Trustlink truck which is at the center of an Ibadan accident.

Secretary-General of the group, Salihu Dantata Mahmud in a statement, said the plea came in response to the impounding of a Hoho truck owned by Trustlink Company which was contracted to transport Dangote goods to Ibesse.

He said the incident occurred when the driver, Rafiu, reportedly deviated from his designated route after offloading the goods in Ibesse.

According to him, the driver allegedly transported some bags of rice without the company’s knowledge and was involved in an accident at the Animal College of Health Science, causing damage to the school’s fence.

Subsequently, he said the Oyo State Command of the Customs took custody of the truck.

“Authorities at the Animal College of Health Science promptly reported the incident to the Customs, leading to further investigations.

“However, appeals made by the company to the Customs headquarters regarding the innocence of the management and the details of the incident have been met with no response.

“The Apata Police Mounted Division took the driver and conductor to the hospital, but they were reported to have escaped from custody.

“Despite providing the necessary documentation, including the Ibese waybill and the police station’s diary report confirming their escape, the investigation department at Customs remains adamant about the driver’s appearance.

“In a bid to resolve the matter, a letter has also been written to the Inspector General of Police. Now, Arewa Youths are calling on the Acting CG of Customs to reopen the investigation, urging him to ensure that justice is served with compassion.

“The Arewa Youths is committed to defending the rights of every Nigerian, plead for the release of the truck which was purchased under a hire-purchase agreement from a bank,” he said .
