Yobe State government yesterday set up a committee to verify the text books and other instructional materials used to deliver the curriculum contents in both public and private school in the state.

In a press statement signed by the education commissioner Dr Muhammed Sani which was made available to journalists in Damaturu, some books used in teaching pupils in some schools in Nigeria do not conform with the beliefs, norms, values and culture of the people.

He said the contents are believed to be capable of promoting immorality, indecency and indiscipline among children, and textbooks and other instructional materials used to deliver the curriculum contents must conform to the norms and values of the people.

Dr. Sani said the Yobe State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and indeed the Yobe State government would not condone or accept the use of any such textbook, audio, video or any digital content used in teaching students in the state.

“All public and private schools are directed to ensure that there are no such textbooks or digital materials in use in their schools. Private schools found to be using such contents risk being closed if discovered.

The statement said only government approved syllabuses, textbooks and all other educational contents are allowed to be used by any public or private school in the state.
