The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) has praised the Nigerian Navy team for winning the Most Disciplined Team award at the 14th Korean Ambassador Cup in Abuja.
NTF president Tayo Popoola said the Navy team distinguished itself through discipline, fair play and sportsmanship during the championship.
Popoola said the recognition reflected the team’s conduct throughout the competition, adding that discipline remained an important part of sporting development.
“It was not a surprise that they got the award. They were everywhere and they mixed with others and displayed good spirit of sportsmanship. I salute the team and they should keep it up,” he said.
The championship, organised by the NTF, attracted taekwondo athletes and enthusiasts, with participants competing in an atmosphere that highlighted the values of discipline and respect associated with the Korean martial art.
Meanwhile, the world-renowned Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Team provided one of the major attractions of the event, thrilling spectators with a series of high-energy performances at the Mo Arena.
The demonstrators captivated the audience with high-flying kicks, powerful strikes, synchronised routines and acrobatic displays that drew sustained applause.
Their performance showcased the technical precision, physical strength, flexibility and discipline required to excel in taekwondo.
The demonstration also provided young Nigerian athletes with an opportunity to witness the sport at an advanced level, highlighting the possibilities available through dedicated training and commitment.
The appearance of the South Korean team added an international dimension to the championship, reinforcing taekwondo’s role in promoting cultural exchange through sport.
South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Jeong Yo-an, urged Nigerian youths to embrace discipline, courage, perseverance and self-belief as they pursue their sporting ambitions.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, Jeong encouraged young athletes to remain committed to their goals regardless of the outcome of competitions.
He said taekwondo offered benefits beyond physical training, explaining that its principles could help young people develop confidence, overcome challenges and contribute positively to society.
The ambassador’s message aligned with the values promoted throughout the championship, where discipline, respect and perseverance were highlighted alongside competitive achievement.
The NTF said the recognition of the Navy team and the demonstration by Kukkiwon underscored the importance of combining sporting excellence with character development.
The Korean Ambassador Cup continues to serve as a platform for promoting taekwondo in Nigeria while strengthening sporting and cultural ties between Nigeria and South Korea.
