Lawmakers Pledge Support For Army, Police Against Insecurity

House of Representatives Committee on Army has pledged to place the Service on a proper pedestal to tackle the challenges of insecurity facing the country.

The chairman of the committee, Hon. Abdullahi Mamudu, who made this pledge at the inauguration of the panel yesterday, said in most democracies, the Military and the Parliaments work together for the good of the society.

Mamudu said the committee has developed a four-year work plan that will be judiciously followed within specific periods in order to achieve its mandate.

“Let us take this responsibility with all seriousness and know that it is our duty to put the Nigerian Army on a proper pedestal to be able to end the several challenges we have been having in terms of insecurity in the country,” he said.

Similarly, the Committee on Police Affairs, has expressed commitment to empower the Nigeria Police Force to address insecurity in the country through adequate funding.

The chairman of the committee, Hon. Makki Yalleman, who spoke at the inaugural meeting of the panel, said the leadership would dwell more on members’ wealth of experience, expertise, hardwork and dedication to achieve the set goals.

“We are to ensure adequate funding for agencies under our jurisdiction, provide useful legislation, carry out performance audits and other allied oversight functions geared towards efficient service delivery and repositioning the Nations internal security architecture,” he said.
