Education got the highest allocation of N41.9 billion as Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule yesterday presented the 2024 budget proposal of N199.9 billion to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval.
Governor Sule presented the estimate tagged “Budget of Renewed Commitment” to the Assembly.
The sum of N86. 9bn representing 44% of the total budget was earmarked for capital expenditure, while N112. 9bn representing 56 % of the total budget is set aside for recurrent expenditure.
” The budget for the various sectors is as follows: Administrative Sector: Education- N41.9bn, Health N27.5bn, Environment N5.5bn, Local Government N6.3bn, Finance N13.1bn, Trade and Investment N3.8bn, Ministry of Science and Technology N1.7bn, Ministry of Works- N22.7bn, Water Resources N4.1bn, Lands and Urban Development N8.6bn, State Assembly N4.3bn and Information, Culture and Tourism N 2.6bn,” the governor said.
Governor Sule said the administration would conveniently complete the ongoing projects and initiate new ones for the overall development of the State if the budget is passed into law.
According to him, the administration has prioritized infrastructural development in order to improve on the standard of living of the people of the State.
He said his administration had employed 3500 secondary school teachers in a bid to enhance the quality of education even as he explained that his administration had absorbed casual staff into permanent and pensionable appointments.
He assured the legislators and the people of the state of full implementation of the budget if passed into law.
Acting Speaker, Mr. Abel Yakubu Bala, assured the governor and people of the state of the commitment of the legislators to accelerate passage of the budget.
He commended Gov. Sule for his transparency and fiscal financial discipline in the handling of the state’s resources.
