During Day 3 of the annual Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye talked about how he hopes to leave this world one day. He shared a story about his uncle to explain his wish for a calm and unexpected departure.

He told everyone that you don’t have to be sick to go to heaven. He remembered how his uncle had a normal day – went to church, had breakfast, and his wife was cooking pounded yam, a favourite meal. But then, his uncle suddenly went to the toilet and didn’t come out.

When his wife checked, she found that his uncle had peacefully passed away without feeling sick or having any pain. Remembering this, Pastor Adeboye said, “If God doesn’t come before then, I want to go to heaven after enjoying a good meal of pounded yam on a Sunday.”

He said, “I know somebody will say, well, if we are never sick, then how are we ever going to die and go to Heaven? You don’t need to be sick to go to Heaven.

“An uncle of mine woke up on a Thanksgiving Sunday, went to Church, danced like everybody else, came home, the wife gave him a light breakfast before preparing the original food – pounded yam. She was already pounding the yam when my uncle decided to go to the toilet.

“After she finished pounding, she knocked at the door of the toilet; when they opened the door, my uncle was gone. No sickness, no ache, no pain. If the Lord tarries His Coming, I will go on a Sunday after a good meal of pounded yam.”
