NOC President Habu Gumel gave the charge during the body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday via virtually.

Gumel, in a communiqué released on Thursday by NOC spokesperson, Tony Nezianya, said Nigeria needs to participate strongly in three major events games in 2024.

“We need a new result at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games by improving on the 1996 Atlanta Games, where Nigeria won two Gold medals,” he said.

According to the NOC President, Nigeria won two good medals in the Atlanta Games in 1996 through Chioma Ajunwa in long jump and the Nwankwo Kanu-led Dream Team in soccer.

He described the year 2023 as a successful year for sports development in the country.
Gumel reflected on the activities of 2022, emphasising the Committee’s commitment to uniting the Olympic family and promoting the ideals of the Olympic Movement.
