The Esan Alliance Movement (EAM) has voiced its unwavering confidence in the governorship aspiration of Sen. Monday Okpebholo within the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the anticipated 2024 Edo governorship election.

The group expressed conviction that Okpebholo possesses the requisite strategy to replicate his previous winning tactics if granted the party’s ticket.

The movement highlighted the potential for economic prosperity and substantial infrastructural development in Edo under Okpebholo’s leadership, emphasizing his demonstrated capabilities as a non-state actor in Edo Central.

Affectionately known as ‘Akpakomiza,’ Sen. Okpebholo represents Edo Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly. He stands as a prominent APC gubernatorial aspirant and serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Procurement.

In a statement addressed to the press in Benin, the Esan Alliance Movement urged strong support for Okpebholo’s candidacy and urged the APC leadership to avoid fielding unpopular or unfit candidates.

Samson Okoduwa, Coordinator of the EAM, and Imade Osagie, Secretary, commended Okpebholo’s political astuteness, crediting him for breaking the stronghold of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo Central and unseating the incumbent Senator Clifford Ordia.

The group firmly asserted that Okpebholo’s candidacy would guarantee a triumph for the APC in the 2024 governorship election, cautioning against prolonging the lacklustre administration of the PDP in Edo State.

“In Edo State’s political landscape, Sen. Okpebholo has proven his worth and transformed the APC in Edo Central into a formidable force for positive change, defying scepticism among others who doubted the party’s potential for success,” remarked the EAM.

“Even when he initially did not consider contesting the Edo Central senatorial seat, he actively sought credible Esan candidates to run under the APC banner. Despite their reluctance, believing the party incapable of winning in Edo Central, Okpebholo stepped up and contested the senatorial seat against the incumbent, securing a resounding victory. Presently, the APC in Edo Central is strategically positioned for future electoral success. Thus, the APC must rally behind a popular and widely accepted candidate capable of dismantling the PDP’s political stronghold entirely in Edo State.”
