Foundation Commissions Borehole In Gombe

As part of its interventions, the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation, has provided 20, 000 litres solar powered water borehole at Sangaru community of Funakaye local government area of Gombe State.

LEADERSHIP reports that most parts of Gombe State including the state capital grapple with water scarcity as residents have to look for vendors who move water in tanks and carts to buy it for consumption and house chores.

However, the foundation intervened in Sangaru, one of the communities in the state by providing water facilities that include storage tanks and taps.

While commissioning the project, the general manager of the foundation, Oludare Odusanya represented by his representative, Umar Abdullahi Maina, explained that the water facility provided comprises of four solar panels, 2.2HP water pump, two 10,000 litres storage tanks and taps in strategic places in the community.

“This state-of-the-art facility harnesses the power of the sun to bring a reliable source of clean water to the residents of this community. By leveraging solar energy, we ensure that the facility not only addresses the immediate water needs of the community but does so in an environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner,” he stated.

Also, the state commissioner for water, environment and forest resources, Mohammed Sa’idu Fawu, represented by a director in the ministry, Inuwa Ahmed, lauded the foundation for the gesture saying it was in line with the needs of the people of the state.

He called on the foundation and other development partners to also intervene in the area of desertification and erosion which he pointed out are serious challenges faced by the state.

In his remarks, the leader of the community, Adamu Mohammed Sarki, expressed appreciation to the organisation for the project describing it as a life-changing initiative.
