The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Gyagon Augustine Grimah, has charged members of the State chapter of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) not to allow their personal interests tear the association apart.

The CP gave the charge on Wednesday in Calabar while supervising the
inauguration of JONAPWD Caretaker and Electoral Committees ahead of the association’s election, which has been slated by stakeholders for February 15, 2024.

“I am not a registered member of your association. Outside God, governent is our father.

“I would always be here for you people as far as security is concerned. Make sure you conduct yourself in a peaceful manner according to the existing laws of the land,” CP Grimah admonished the gathering.

In his speech, delivered during the extraordinary congress of the group, with the theme; “Nothing for Us without Us,” chairman of the five-member Caretaker Committee of JONAPWD, Prof. Jacob Agba, also sued for peace and unity among members in order to move the association forward.

Agba, who spoke on the topic, ‘Actualising Peace and Unity in JONAPWD’, shortly after the affirmation of the Caretaker and Electoral Committees by members, stated that with peace and unity, stakeholders can partner the state government to attract several goodies for members particularly those without job.

In his remarks, Convener and Pioneer of Disability Civil Rights Movement and Policy Change in Nigeria, Dr. Job Napoleon Agbor, expressed happiness over the presence of the State’s Commissioner of Police who came in person to supervise the activities of JONAPWD in Cross River State.

He solicited for sustainance of peace, which he said can attract growth and provide opportunity for the association stakeholders to lift the JONAPWD to enviable pedestal.

“I plead with everyone to conduct himself or herself in a peaceful manner for the good of the association.

“I charge the caretaker and ELECO committees to work within the confines of the association’s constitution, which is in line with existing laws of the land,” Agbor stated.
