A lone protester, Comrade David Ubaha, 41, from Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom State yesterday abandoned his business of selling auto parts and staged a protest in the streets of Uyo, the state capital against the current hardship in the country.

He lamented that his children and other family members were dying and suffering under the excruciating pains of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renwed Hope Agenda”.

Expressing disappointment over the prevailing high cost of living coupled with the hyper – inflationary trend, Ubaha, took a detour to the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Asutan Street, Uyo, where he ventilated his grievances before journalists.

“The situation has become unbearable that most people can no longer cope,” he lamented, fighting back tears.

With placards of varying inscriptions complemented with others pinned all over his attire, Ubaha expressed sadness that “when ideas are proffered on how to fix the economy, those in  leadership position don’t take such ideas into consideration,” adding that such attitude has been the bane of the country’s development.

He listed Nigeria’s problems to include depreciation of the naira, unbearable hardship, ravaging insecurity, unplanned subsidy removal, uncontrolled inflation and others.

He, therefore, urged President Tinubu to resuscitate the economy, commence local production, diversify the economy, revamp dying industries and invest in mechanical farming.

He also suggested that Nigeria should stop unnecessary borrowing, equip hospitals and stop seeking medical attention abroad.

Ubaha said: “The idea on how to fix this country does not reside with our leaders alone; it reside with the people, but the saddest episode is that when these ideas are being proffered by the people, the leaders will not take them into cognizant.”
