Human rights activist and the African Action Congress presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, Omoyele Sowore, has come under criticism on social media following his latest attack on former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, over a prolonged doctors’ strike during his administration.
Sowore, in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday morning, accused Obi of presiding over what he described as the longest recorded doctors’ strike in human history during his eight years as governor of Anambra State.
He also questioned Obi’s promise to establish primary healthcare facilities in every ward if elected president, alleging that the former governor failed to prioritise hospital development during his tenure.
The activist further accused Obi of converting state funds into dollars and keeping them in banks where he allegedly had shares and financial interests.
“Don’t let hypocrites and liars gaslight you! The longest recorded doctors’ strike in human history took place in Anambra State during the wicked regime of Mr. Peter Obi.
“The packaged fraud and his minions now tell you he will establish primary healthcare facilities in every ward, but during his eight years as governor, instead of building hospitals, he converted state funds into dollars and stashed them in banks where he held shares and financial interests.
“Never vote for wolves in sheep’s clothing!” Sowore wrote.
His comments, however, triggered mixed reactions, with several Facebook users questioning his decision to focus on attacking another opposition figure rather than presenting his own policy proposals.
Ezechona Ezimuo questioned Sowore’s approach, writing, “This man might be going crazy, you people will not know.”
Similarly, Ugochukwu Igwe asked, “What if Sowore is mad but we don’t know?”
Ekechukwu Benneth told Sowore to investigate the circumstances surrounding the doctors’ strike.
“Oga, go and read what caused the strike, you’ll love him for being a firm leader and insisting on the right thing!” he wrote.
Another Facebook user, Kolawole E. Afolabi, challenged Sowore to address what he described as the activities of Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“Dear Omoyele Sowore, I hope you can read the comments on your post. The same people who always supported you anytime you posted against someone in the southwest or north. The day you will post the truth about the terrorist activities of Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB ,your days will be numbered,” Afolabi wrote.
Johnwill Chris Titan, in a sarcastic reaction, described Sowore as a content creator, saying, “Content creator, let me comment so that you go fit see food chop.”
Defending Obi’s record in Anambra, Ezegwu Jude Kelechi argued that the former governor introduced accountability and order into the state’s health sector.
“Peter Obi brought sanity to the health sector in Anambra. He swept corruption out, and corruption fought back, but he didn’t bow to their pressure until accountability and order was restored in the sector.
“Obi was impeached a couple of times because he refused to play the kind of politics that grounded Nigeria for decades. No matter your smear campaign on Obi, Nigerians already know who means well for them and who is deceiving them,” he wrote.
Cyril Ogah also criticised Sowore, accusing him of displaying what he described as bitterness towards other political figures.
“If you can say Alex Otti is not doing anything in Abia State, you can say anything.
“You sound like you’re bitter and jealous of other people’s shine. (It looks like). You’ve got his messianic mentality. If not you, nobody else.
“The teeming youth of Nigeria have come to believe in the path of Peter Obi ,and that path would have eventually led to you, but you’ve destroyed all the efforts we made in campaigning for you in your first attempt.
“Omoyele Sowore, it seems to me like you don’t understand how the world works.
“You’re intelligent, exposed, but you don’t understand how the real world works.
“Maybe you’re a double agent ,” Ogah wrote.
Chieme Chukwuduro also faulted Sowore for directing his criticism at another opposition figure instead of concentrating on his own campaign and policy proposals.
“As a Presidential candidate, campaign base on what you can offer differently to Nigerians and against the ruling party, which should be what an opposition candidate should be doing, that’s if you are one anyway, not this attack on another opposition candidate, Habaaa,” Chukwuduro wrote.
Some other commenters accused Sowore of indirectly helping the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by attacking opposition figures.
Jack Obinyan wrote, “They have started campaigning for Tinubu again…Atiku is your next President.”
Meanwhile, Okey Azubuike questioned the circumstances surrounding the strike and its eventual suspension, raising questions about the reasons doctors returned to work.
“Then Obi asked and still asking,
“1. Can any of the doctors tell the world why they went on strike? NO ANSWER YET.
“2. Were there any medical challenges faced by patients during the period? NO IS THE ANSWER.
“Now, my question to the class prefect,” h continued, referring to Sowore,
“What prompted the doctors to resume work??”
Izuvhukwu Okeke also questioned the outcome of the industrial action, asking, “Oga Mr poster, what was the result after the strike?”
Silver Etiosa, however, suggested that Sowore had already addressed the issue during a previous debate.
“He already explained to you during Ur debate . I wonder if U think we didn’t watch it,” Etiosa wrote.
Others called on the activist to move beyond criticism and explain how he intends to address Nigeria’s challenges if elected president.
Akintola Jeremiah asked, “Omoyele Sowore , what have you personally done to improve healthcare in your community? Stop hiding behind criticism and tell Nigerians what you would do differently. Anyone can criticise, but where are your ideas and solutions?”
Alex Pencil and Monday Udoh made similar appeals, writing, “Campaign and not stop attacking. Tell us what you can do if elected?”
Onejetan Daniel also reacted with a remark about Sowore’s association with the South-East, writing, “Sowore and igbo marijuana nor bi 5&6?”
Another commenter, Ekeleme Precious Ezinne, focused on the timing of the activist’s post, joking about how early it was published.
“I’m seeing this post by 5:40am.
“And it’s saying you made the post 11mins ago.
“Ihikwara ura abali.?(are you alright?)
“Did you sleep at all.?
“Ara ga agba gi oo,”(which means you will get mad in Igbo language ) Ezinne wrote.
