Livestock Production: Yobe Govt, L-PRESS Train Veterinary, Para-Veterinarians, Others On Disease Surveillance, Monitoring

The Yobe State ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in collaboration with Livestock productivity and resilience support project (L-PRES) have organised a two days training for Veterinarians, para-veterinarians and community Animal health workers on disease surveillance and monitoring under one health approach.

The commissioner of Agriculture Hon Ali Mustapha Goniri has while declaring the training open at Medical and Health Workers Union Secretariat along Potiskum road Damaturu expressed satisfaction that the present administration of Governor Mai Malah Buni considers the health of people with utmost priority.

A statement issued by the media officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hajiya A’ishatu Tijjani said Mustapha revealed that the Buni administration has of recent made concerted efforts towards rehabilitating and constructing modern abattoir and meat factory in the three major towns of Damaturu, Gashu’a and Potiskum for hygienic and healthy meat in the state

He further stated that the state government has equally procured and vaccinated over one million livestock with Anthrax vaccines for the prevention of the trans-border disease in addition to boosting livestock production and the economy of the people in the state.

The commissioner commended the management of L-PRES for the training which he said is timely urging the veterinarians among other participants to put in their best for better results.

Earlier in a welcome address, the director veterinary services in the ministry Dr Iliyasu Maina said as an Agrarian state, the training in Yobe is not only apt but necessary in the quest to foster productivity and rearing quality animals under one health.

Maina said, “The three ministries of Health, Environment and Agriculture that form part of the training are inter-connected and the training will build bridges for high yield as far as livestock productivity is concerned in the state.

“The participants for the training are drawn from the seventeen local Government areas numbering over seventy five persons and they will be trained on skills and tools to monitor and control diseases to safeguard our livestock in Yobe state.”

In their goodwill messages, the commissioner of Health and that of Environment represented by Director Public health, Dr Hauwa Lare Goni and G.M Environmental respectively commended the cordial working relationships between the health and agriculture officials calling on the concerned stakeholder to continue with the momentum with a view to give out the best result for the L- PRES project in the state.

The state Coordinator of the project L-PRES Hajiya Adama Hussaini madaki has while speaking, highlighted that the terms and duration of the project will last for six years expressing optimism that it will impact positively on livestock production in the state.

Madaki further stressed that out of the 36 states of the federation, Yobe state was amongst the few 13 states that were chosen and accessed their disbursements.
