Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State has deployed 800 officers and men to beef up security in the state ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The commandant, Usman Alfadarai, announced this on Monday during this week’s mustard parade at the command’s headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital.
He said the personnel, who were drawn from area commands, divisions, tactical units and special forces, were deployed to provide backup to operatives on routine duties in the field.
“Gentlemen, this is another very important national assignment and the commandant general, Ahmed Audi has directed full security coverage to ensure a hitch free celebration,” he said.
He commended officers and men of the command for what he described as ” our splendid performance in the just concluded Easter celebration” and urged them to keep the flag flying.
“I want you to redouble your efforts to ensure that the relative peace in the state is not only sustained but also improved on our mandates of securing lives and critical national assets and infrastructure,” he said.
The NSCDC boss, who maintained that security is everybody’s business, charged the general public to always report suspicious persons, movements and objects to the security agents.
Alfadarai used the forum to congratulate Muslims in the state on the celebration and urged them to be law-abiding and continue to live peacefully among themselves and with their neighbours.
