Abia State government has boasted that under one year in office, it had fixed 70 roads between Umuahia, the capital and Aba through direct labour.

The commissioner for information and culture, Okey Kanu announced this yesterday at a press briefing on this week’s executive council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti in the capital.
He said intensive work were also ongoing on Umuahia-Ossah-Abia Tower, Port Harcourt (Aba), Umuahia -Uzuakoli-Isukwuato-Ohafia, Nunya-Isikwuato, and Arochukwu-Ndi Okereke -Ozu Abam Roads.

“It’s 11 months ago that Governor Otti promised residents of the state that he was going to rebuild the state and you will agree with me that it has been months of power parked performance,” he noted.

“We have done so much under the period and that’s not sounding immodest,” the commissioner further maintained, adding. “It’s been a case of promise made and promise kept.”

He argued that the administration had also done well in payment of salaries, noting “with effect from April, pensioners began to receive their pension 100 per cent along with civil servants on it before 27 of the month”.

Kanu added that in pursuance of its drive to address the welfare of the civil servants, the administration was watching the dialogue between the federal government and the labour unions on salary increment.

Contributing, the deputy chief of staff to the governor, Chinedu Ekeke, who was also present, condemned the reported continued harassment of people in Aba, describing it as unacceptable.
