Nuhu, who stated this while briefing newsmen however, explained that, as a swift measure to prevent the spread of the disease, the association has partnered with the National Institute of Cancer Research and Treatment Centre, Abuja to mitigate the menace among the association’s members, and the general public in the state.

“As part of the association’s effort, we organised a cancer walk where members embarked on trekking across some major streets in the Sokoto metropolis.

“In addition, over 200 members and non-members have been tested during the one-day outreach held at the NBA Secretariat in Sokoto.

“Since coming on board as the NBA Chairman, we have lost not less than three members to cancer related issues. Even last week, we lost one of our colleagues, Hassan Suka, as a result of cancer related disease,” he said.

He therefore stressed the need to raise more awareness about cancer so that people can take preventive measures and go for early tests to prevent the spread of the disease.

While declaring open the 2024 Law Week with the theme: “Professionalism and Nation Building” the state attorney general and commissioner for Justice, Muhammad Nasir Binji, said the Sokoto State government has renewed its commitment to partner with the judiciary to uphold the rule of law in the state.

He said Governor Ahmed Aliyu has taken various steps towards actualising the commitment by creating an enabling environment between the executive and the legislature.

The state chief judge, Muhammad Sai’du Sifawa, applauded the association for organising the week-long event.

Justice Sifawa said the celebration of the week will provide an avenue to interact, share ideas, and promote the administration of justice in the state.

He called on members of the association to always reflect on the successes and achievements recorded in the year under review and to plan for the overall development of the profession.
