The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Adewole Adebayo and his African Action Congress (AAC) counterpart, Omoyele Sowore, have expressed divergent views on the minimum wage dispute between the federal government and the organised Labour which has led to strike action.

Both former presidential hopefuls made their positions known on the X social media platform.

Reacting to the trade dispute, Adebayo said, knocked the federal government and Labour for adopting hard lines over what ought to be rationally worked out.

He said,“There is no reason for FGN and @NLCHeadquarters @The_TUC to overdo their game of chicken at the expense of a rattled economy. Adopting hard lines over what ought to be rationally worked out is not leadership. @officialABAT who broke all equilibria must give ₦100,000 minimum wage.

“After resolving wage disputes this week, FGN, @NLCHeadquarters and @The_TUC must sit down as adults to discuss macroeconomic price stabilisation by @cenbank, labour productivity, especially the public sector, regulatory environment, infrastructure and social investments long term,” he said.

On his part, Sowore, outrightly backed the strike action by Labour even though he recalled that his party had promised to give a N100,000 minimum wage if elected in 2019.

He said “I support the @NLCHeadquarters & TUC strike to seek better wages for Nigerian workers; although we at @aacparty offered N100k wage in 2019 they (Labour leaders) went with politicians who offered and wouldn’t pay N18k! #RevolutionNow,” he said.
