The Yobe State Government is set to train 2,500 young women and girls in vocational and digital skills under the Technology Talent Services (TTS) project to expand employment opportunities, promote digital inclusion and strengthen economic independence.
A statement issued by the Media Coordinator/Liaison in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ibrahim Baba Saleh, said the development facilitated through the Office of Focal Person on Ease of Doing Business in
Yobe, Hajiya Amina Galadima was highlighted during a courtesy visit by a delegation from TTS Nigeria, led by Ambassador Janet Olisa, to the SSG, Dr. Mohammed Goje.
Speaking during the visit, Olisa said the delegation was in the state to assess prospective training centres, review implementation readiness and strengthen collaboration with the state government to ensure effective delivery of the programme.
The initiative, implemented through a partnership involving the Yobe State Government, Mastercard Foundation and Tech for Development, seeks to equip young women and girls with relevant vocational and digital competencies to improve their employability and participation in the evolving economy.
“During the assessment, Yobe State emerged as a leading state among the 12 participating states in terms of preparedness for implementation, reflecting the structures established by the state government to support the programme.
“Beyond skills acquisition, participants are expected to receive support with job searches and placement opportunities, enabling them to translate their training into employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.”
Receiving the delegation, Goje reaffirmed Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to human capital development, youth empowerment and inclusive economic growth.
He said the administration remained committed to supporting programmes that expand opportunities for young women and girls, promote innovation and strengthen their participation in the state’s development.
The SSG disclosed that the state government would establish a Project Steering Committee comprising relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), civil society organisations and representatives of persons with disabilities to ensure effective coordination, inclusivity and government ownership.
“The proposed committee will bring together key stakeholders from the ministries responsible for Women Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, Wealth Creation and Information, alongside the Yobe Information Technology Development Agency (YITDA), civil society organisations and organisations representing persons with disabilities,” the statement said.
“The training of 2,500 girls represents an important opportunity to expand access to digital technology and vocational education in Yobe State, particularly for young women seeking practical skills to improve their economic prospects.
By linking skills acquisition with employment support, the initiative is expected to bridge skills gaps, increase women’s participation in emerging sectors and create pathways to greater financial independence,” the statement added.
“The initiative aligns with the Buni administration’s broader human capital development agenda, which recognises skills acquisition, technology and inclusive economic opportunities as essential drivers of sustainable development.”
