Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf revealed this development on his official X handle on Wednesday.

Governor Yusuf stated, “In addition to the renovation and construction of new classrooms, we are planning to recruit 17,600 school security personnel across Kano State. The personnel will be employed across the state to ensure the safety of primary school facilities, teachers, and pupils, with 400 personnel per local government.”

The initiative aims to enhance security at the grassroots level, with the security personnel being recruited from the localities where the schools are located.

This announcement comes on the heels of Governor Yusuf’s earlier disclosure that N1.9 billion had been allocated for the renovation of classrooms across the state. This was also communicated through his official X handle on Tuesday night. In addition to the renovations, the governor has approved a further N2.9 billion for the construction of new classrooms, stating, “This is phase one of the drive to build new and befitting classrooms for learning across Kano State.”

The measures were part of Governor Yusuf’s broader strategy following his declaration of a State of Emergency on Education on June 8.

The administration has embarked on a comprehensive overhaul focused on academic and infrastructure development, with the aim of improving the overall educational environment in Kano State.
