NAFDAC Alerts On Unregistered B-GAG Syrup

National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public about the illegal production and sale of unregistered B-GAG syrup by Babban Gida Agalawa General Enterprises.

This was contained in a Public notice No.023/2024 on the agency‘s website.

The agency said that the product, presented in a pet bottle, was discovered during surveillance activities carried out by the its Post Marketing Surveillance Directorate Officers in Maiduguri, Borno, and Keffi, Nasarawa States.

It said that the product was found to be without NAFDAC Registration number and with misleading labeling information.

NAFDAC informed that the illegal marketing of medicines or counterfeit medicines pose a risk to people’s health.

It gave the batch number of the product as 0070, the manufacturing date as 01/02/2024, and the expiring date as 01/02/2027.

NAFDAC also gave the address of the manufacturer as No. 883/884 Western Bypass Ring Road, Kumbosto Local Government, Kano State.

 

The statement further stated that all NAFDAC zonal directors and state coordinators have been directed to carry out surveillance and mop up the illegal products within the zones and states.

The agency advised consumers and caregivers to exercise caution and vigilance to avoid the use of the product.

 

„All medical products must be obtained from authorized/licensed suppliers. The products’ authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked.

 

„Healthcare professionals and consumers are advised to report any suspicion of the sale of substandard and falsified medicines or medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office,“ NAFDAC added.
