The Lagos Coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Afrobeat singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has granted the family of the deceased permission to conduct an independent autopsy and toxicology test on his body.

The coroner’s court sitting in the Ikorodu area of the state granted the permission after entertaining an application brought before him by the family of Mohbad through their lawyer, Wahab Shittu (SAN).

The family had applied for an independent autopsy, citing suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased and the inconclusive nature of the one conducted by the state government.

The Aloba family, in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the head of the family’s legal team, Taiwo Odumosu, stated that the Coroner’s Court also ordered that the family would bear all legal expenses for the conduct and process of the toxicology test.

The statement read in part, “The court has ordered that the Aloba family would bear all legal expenses for the conduct and process of the toxicology test. The deceased’s father, mother, and wife are also required to be present during the autopsy.

“The Coroner’s Court chaired by T.A Sonubi, who gave the order, however, said that all the legal expenses on the conduct and process of the toxicology test would be borne by the Aloba family.
The Lagos State government had set up the inquest following public outcry and a request from the law firm of Femi Falana (SAN) over the sudden death of the late singer.
