Coordinated by the Embassy of Spain, Nigeria, in collaboration with the National Museum of Anthropology and Mamah Gallery Spain, the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, and Nike Arts Gallery in Nigeria, Abuja is one of the several stops, the travelling exhibition is making in its tour of West Africa.

Blue Africa: Stories Woven In Indigo showcases special indigo art pieces sourced from all across West Africa, including signed artworks and personal collections by Nigeria’s veteran tie-dye artist and Yoruba heritage promoter, Nike Davies-Okundaye.

With so much more indigo to see in Nigeria and Africa, the embassy and National Museum of Anthropology found it significant to host the exhibition in Nigeria and west Africa, as a means of preserving and celebrating this heritage.

“Indigo technique constitutes only part of the amazing and rich heritage of Nigeria, which Mama Nike among others have been preserving, showcasing internationally and passing on to younger generations.

It is our great pleasure to contribute to the promotion of this technique beyond Nigeria’s borders, to encourage people to preserve this amazing legacy and of course to give the opportunity to Nigeria to know how their traditions and culture are embraced, celebrated and admired by our people in Spain,” read the press release by the embassy.
