Yobe State Police Command has paraded two suspected soldiers and three others in connection with the alleged murder of an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni Aisami on Gashua-Kano Road in the state.

Police spokesperson DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, told Journalists that the soldiers were Lance Corporal John Gabriel with registration number N A13/69/1522 and Lance Corporal Adamu Gideon with registration number N/A13/70/6552, both of RECCE Battalion in Nguru, Yobe State.

He said the prime suspect, Gabriel, admitted to the crime and explained how he killed the cleric and seized his car.
According to a statement signed by army spokesperson Kennedy Anyanwu, any soldier found wanting would face the wrath of the law.
“This incident is highly regrettable, given the sector’s disposition and zero-tolerance on the violation of code of conduct and rules of engagement for troops,” Anyanwu said,
The Islamic scholar was travelling from Gashua to Kano when he was trailed in a bus by the attackers.
LEADERSHIP gathered that after the parade of the suspected soldiers, the army would set up a board of inquiry to unravel the circumstances around the unfortunate incident.
