He made this known while distributing fertiliser to farmers in Imo State in partnership with Ebonyi Fertiliser and Chemical Company, led by Eni Uduma Chima.

Ambassador Akpelu stressed that farmers in the southeast suffer deprivation due to the non-application of high yield fertilisers, and their intervention would take a long time to ameliorate the same.

He said, “We have brought a fertiliser company from Ebonyi to Imo State to come and bring about improved yields. This is because of the complaints from our people that when they plant, they get poor harvests because of adulterated fertiliser.

“We heard their cry, and as a result, we moved and attracted the Ebonyi State Fertiliser Company to end their sufferings and support our own. At this point, we are calling on our Igbo brothers and sisters to support us to ensure that there is food in Imo State and the South East and the entire Igboland. We are a welfare organization working for our people. Igbos should come out and support their own.

“Let us promote agriculture and support each other. We believe that the level of insecurity will be resolved and with this, the love we used to have for ourselves will return.

“You know, when people commit crimes, the most common cause is hunger. When somebody is hungry, he does not think well. Part of what we should do is ensure people have enough food.”

Speaking, the chairman of Ebonyi Fertiliser and Chemical Company, Uduma Chima, revealed that they are interested in food security and boosting agriculture, to eradicate hunger in the southeast.

He explained that adulterated fertiliser represent great concern and called on southeast governors to put mechanisms in place to checkmate this ugly trend.

He said: “We have come to Imo in partnership with Ogbako Ndigbo Nile to make fertilisers available to our people to bring solutions to their agricultural challenges because we are interested in food security and giving our people fertiliser to boost agriculture in the state.

“As well as address the issue of adulteration, the southeast governors are fighting seriously to eradicate hunger and poverty through various programmes, including agriculture and food production.”
