Chrisland Students Shine In Creative Arts, Drama Showcase

Students of Chrisland International School recently took centre stage to showcase their prowess in the realms of creative art and drama.

The event tagged ‘A Symphony of Stories and evening of theatric Wonders’ held at the MUSON Centre, Lagos recently.

The students mixed education and arts at an event that involved theatre and performing arts, dance, spoken words, music and artistic expression from the African and Nigerian root.

The epochal evening had so many enchanting artistic features, spoken words-cum dance drama titled ‘Africa is one’, ‘Makossa dance’, and the colourful “fashion show”.

Others were the stage dramas, ‘The god’s are not to blame’ and ‘Kurunmi’ by the playwright late Professor Ola Rotimi, and ‘The Dahomey Women Warriors’ which was interpreted by the students of Chrisland as they displayed their talents, boldness, masterfully flowing lines, Yoruba proverbs, customs, props and set designs.

Director of Chrisland Schools, Mrs. Ayoola Akinyeye, stated that the event was aimed at ensuring that their children acquire total education both within and outside their classroom to give them a holistic education.

She noted that their children have been immense into creative theatre arts not just for entertainment but to aid them to develop critical thinking, skills, and cultivate empathy.

“The arts challenges them to see the world from different perspective and to appreciate the beauty of diversity”, Akinyeye said.

Ikpomwosa Esosa-Imade, a ten year-old, basic Six actor, who played the lead character of “Kurunmi”, said that he felt so accomplished playing the role.

Speaking in an interview with LEADERSHIP, the young talented lad added that the drama impacted him so much that he will like to become an actor in futured. Ikpomwosa also stated that the drama taught him, “not to take his life despite the bad situation he found himself in life.”

Also speaking, Mr. Okpala, a parent whose daughter was involved in the drama, expressed his joy in watching his girl on stage.

“While watching these plays one forgets you are watching children due to their excellent performances. From what I have seen today, I will encourage my daughter to go into acting if she wants to take it up”, he declared.
