The chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, has taken a pivotal step towards securing support for the commission’s key projects, notably the upcoming Population and Housing Census.

In a visit to the minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, Hon. Kwarra sought financial backing and strategic collaboration for the census and the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) initiatives.

He said these projects are crucial for Nigeria’s demographic planning and development.

The upcoming census, set to be Nigeria’s first fully digital and eco-friendly census, requires strong inter-ministerial cooperation to ensure its success.

During the meeting, Minister Edun assured the NPC of his ministry’s full support, emphasizing the importance of reliable data for long-term planning and sustainable development.

“This partnership is vital for ensuring comprehensive and credible population data that will drive effective decision-making for the nation’s growth,” Edun remarked.

Hon. Kwarra, accompanied by NPC Federal Commissioners from Lagos, Adamawa, and Taraba states, as well as senior officials, expressed appreciation for the minister’s commitment.

He underscored the significance of engagements with key stakeholders in achieving the commission’s mandate of delivering accurate and reliable demographic data for national progress.

“The digital census is expected to be a landmark in Nigeria’s efforts to leverage technology for efficient data collection and governance, marking a significant stride towards sustainable development,” he added.
