Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has debunked the claim by the management of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU) that only one staff of the institution died since the establishment of the university about 12 years ago.

However, in a statement, the chairperson, ASUU branch of the university, Dr Auwal Hussain made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday, said about seven staff of the university died.

He said that the families of the deceased staff were not paid death benefits as enshrined in the law that establishes the university.

“The union has a record of at least seven members of academic staff who have passed away, yet the university acknowledges only one.

“By deliberately downplaying the deaths of the late Dr Abdulqadir Musa Badara of Business Administration, late Maryam Zangoma of Biochemistry, late Mr Godwin of Public Administration, late Salim Abubaka r of Business Administration, late Nasiru Saidu of Business Administration, late Mohammed Manu of Education and Late Muhammad Garba Imam from Biological Sciences- who all died in active service – the University sends a disheartening message to the current serving staff, that their contributions may be shortly forgotten after their death.
