Sports development minister, Senator John Owan-Enoh, has congratulated Nigeria’s Flamingos for their impressive win against New Zealand, at the ongoing FIFA U-17 women’s World Cup in Dominican Republic on Wednesday’s night.

Shakirat Moshood got Nigeria in front after two minutes, while Taiwo Adegoke doubled the lead 11 minutes later.
Reacting to the win, Enoh wrote on X:”Congratulations to our dear U-17 Women’s National Football Team, the Flamingos, on their impressive 4-1 victory over New Zealand, the opening match of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.”

Meanwhile, the team handler, Coach Bankole Olowookere has reflected on his side’s victory, describing it as a good omen for the team

“It’s a good first game for us. We are taking them as they come, so a good game for us, scoring four goals and only conceding one, so not bad for our first game,” Olowookere was quoted by FIFA.com.

The Flamingos will be back in action on Saturday when they take on debutant Ecuador.
