The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kaduna Bar, has held a valedictory session in honour of Yunus Ustaz Usman, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Yunus Ustaz who was a life bencher and leader of Kaduna Bar died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the age of 67.
The session, which lasted for about three hours at the High Court Complex, was attended by senior members of the bench and the Bar as well as other dignitaries, who paid glowing tributes to the deceased.
Declaring the session open, the Chief Judge of Kaduna State, Hon. Justice Muhammad Tukur Aliyu described late Yunus as a man of integrity who finds time to help others.
According to him, late Yunus Ustaz provided probono services to people who could not afford legal services.
The Kaduna State attorney general and commissioner of justice, Sule Shu’aibu described the death of Yunus as a profound loss to the legal community and the nation.
He noted that his contributions to justice, governance and advancement of the rule of law in Nigeria remain invaluable.
Shu’aibu who was the chairman of the valedictory session however, noted that his legacies will continue to inspire future generation.
NBA president Josiah Afam Osigwe described him as a great man who lived a great and impactful life, urging his family and Kaduna Bar to find strength in his legacies.
The NBA chairman, Kaduna branch, Godwin Ochai noted that Yunus Ustaz exemplified excellence, integrity and professionalism.
“He was a champion of human rights, a defender of the oppressed and a fierce critic of injustice. His courageous voice was a powerful force for change. He spoke truth to power, his fearless advocacy inspired us to stand up for what is right,”.
Earlier in his remarks, Jibrin Samuel Okutekpa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) urged the judiciary to take its rightful place and stop allowing the executive to manipulate them.
