The bridge, which is located on the Owerri-Orlu Expressway, has narrow edges and had claimed several lives in time past.

Eyewitness said the commercial vehicle lost control and crashed into the river after it had rammed headlong into the railings and eventually into the river.

Due to the jammed sitting arrangement in the bus and the attendant panic, the passengers were discovered dead when public spirited people ran there for rescue operations.

The Imo State Police Command was yet to confirm the incident but people who can’t reach their loved ones had thronged to the venue in search of their relations.
