PICTORIAL: INEC Delegation To US Election Visits Nigerian Embassy

A delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria, currently in the United States to observe the 2024 presidential election, has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Embassy in Atlanta, Georgia.

The INEC team, led by Mr. Sam Olumekun, a National Electoral Commissioner in the Commission, was comprised several key members, including INEC National Secretary, Chief (Dr.) Rose Oriaran-Anthony.

Others are Mr. Okezie Nwankwo, Deputy Director, INEC; Professor Helen Paul, former Youth Ambassador to INEC, and Dr. Prince Ero Ibhafidon, President of the Waterlight Save Initiative Inc., an international non-governmental organisation and INEC partner.

The delegation was warmly received by representatives of the Nigerian Embassy in Atlanta, who commended INEC for its dedication to democratic development and its efforts to learn from established democratic systems.

Present at the meeting were Consul General, Ambassador Auwalu Namadina Jega; Mr. Mohammed Shehu, Consul (Political and Economic); Mrs. Miriam C. Udeozo, Consul (NIDO, Education & Culture); Mr. Abubakar Othman, Consul (Head of Chancery); Mr. Kariya Sani Gambo, Financial Attaché, and Mrs. Stellamaris Eniolorunda, Vice Consul (Immigration).

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the significance of INEC’s observation mission to the United States, which aimed to enhance Nigeria’s electoral processes by adopting strategies that promote transparency, voter engagement, efficient logistics, and impartial vote counting.

In her remarks, INEC National Secretary, Dr. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, highlighted the importance of such international partnerships in fostering the professional development of INEC’s electoral staff and reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to democratic integrity.

Dr. Prince Ero Ibhafidon, President of Waterlight Save Initiative Inc., noted that the partnership with INEC signified a commitment to collaborative governance and shared learning to advance free, fair, and credible elections.
