Yobe Monarch Calls For Peaceful Coexistence Among Farmers, Herders

The emir of Damaturu, Dr Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Al-amin El-kanemi, has called for peaceful coexistence among farmers and herders in Lake Chad region, saying that unity will help to achieve the much desired economic prosperity.

Shehu made this call shortly after three days International Development Forum held at N’Djamena, Chad Republic. It was contained in his address during the stakeholders meeting on dialogues between farmers and herders.

The monarch revealed that Yobe State had enjoyed peace due to various efforts put by the government in collaboration with traditional institutions.

He called on farmers in the state and the entire Northeast region to engage in early farming activities. He also encouraged herders and farmers not to get involved in conflicts of interest.
According to him, the peaceful coexistence between the various ethnic groups in the region should be maintained.

Dr Shehu charged farmers and herders to live in peace with one another just as he enjoined his subjects to continue to pray for peaceful coexistence in the country.

The leaders discussed the longstanding relationship between their countries and explored avenues for enhancing cooperation in various sectors.

The royal father admonished farmers and herders to eschew violence and embrace dialogue in dispute resolution, adding that farmers and cattle breeders need each other across the region.
