England legend Alan Shearer believes Arsenal are still in the title race despite the points gap between them and leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Gabriel Martinelli scored to put Mikel Arteta’s men in front before Pedro Neto equalised for the Blues.

The draw means Arsenal are nine points adrift of the Reds on the log after 11 games played.

But Shearer, a Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers in 1995, is confident Arsenal can go on a run of wins to reduce the points deficit.

“Yeah it’s a lot (Liverpool’s lead). But I think Arsenal are capable of going on a really good run and you would hope, from their point of view, they’ve got through their injuries a couple of weeks back, come back after the international break and go on a four or five game run where they can win every game and they can do that.

“So I wouldn’t rule Arsenal out just yet. I think it was a decent result for them today, getting their point – it would have been a disaster if they had been beaten.”

Up next for the Gunners is a league home game with Nottingham Forest after the international break.

After the game with Forest, they will travel to Portugal to face Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.

They will return to domestic action with a trip to West Ham before entertaining Manchester United.
